CONSTANT SMILES TIME MEASURED IN MOONFLOWERS (FEAT. CASSANDRA JENKINS)
New York indie folk collective Constant Smiles observe the mercurial passage of time on their nocturnal new single 'Time Measured in Moonflowers', featuring singer-songwriter Cassandra Jenkins. The track is the first single from the band's forthcoming album Moonflowers, their Felte Records debut. A delicate four-beat acoustic picking pattern ripples alongside founder and vocalist Ben Jones' grounded tone like a steady stream. Cassandra Jenkins' accompanying vocals are smooth and steadying as Jones ponders: 'Have I floated away from what I needed?' through fluttery synth hums and glinting piano notes. 'Time Measured in Moonflowers' is inspired by the Hayao Miyazaki film 'The Wind Rises', and Jones developed the track around the concept of "...riding inspiration like it comes, like the wind, letting it arrive naturally, take flight, and guide you." Jones continues to say: "It's also about how time slips through your fingers, how life moves like the wind, and the importance of appreciating it while you can." Jenkins' contribution the track is a nod to her influence on the upcoming record, and as the song unfolds, the meditative interplay between their vocal lines hones in on that creative appreciation without overwhelming the arrangement. With 'Time Measured in Moonflowers', Constant Smiles deliver a contemplative piece that hints at the unfurling growth to take place on Moonflowers. -Kayla Sandiford
